November 16, 2008             ADHD, the other Personality Set

Sitting here with my arm in a sling, thinking about my ADHD-ness and how it affects others, around me.

I've been "all boy", all my life.  I've never had ADHD medication.  I don't get sick, much, but I BREAK THINGS.  This time, it was my shoulder.  Yeah, I'd do the same things over, resulting in the same sling.  That's the way we are.  By "we", I mean ADHD males.  We are Risk-Takers. "It seemed like a good idea, at the time" is sufficient reason for having done something.

I'm a mental health therapist, having worked with folks who are diagnosed ADHD, ever since 1975.  I am now writing a book and getting ready to lead some workshops (for parents) on the joys of having a "Hunter Male".  I'm one of those who does not see this as a Deficit, or as a Disorder.  I see it as a different kind of Personality Set.

I subscribe to the notion that most folks are FARMERS and a small percentage of us are HUNTERS.  (see The Edison Gene, by Thom Hartmann)  Both personality types are necessary for an organized society to function, properly.  I will explain this, in depth, later.

For right now, I am asking people for their stories, both from parents of Hunters and from Hunters, themselves.  If you are interested, please post it on InlandEmpireGrapevine.com.  Add to this blog, or start one of your own.  Have fun with it.......not all of the stories are nightmares........................

Bye for now.
